Our Furbaby Girl

Yes, that's right. She is the newest member of the family. She arrived five (5) ago with my niece and brother. My niece stayed at her mother during school vacation, and my brother picked her up last Monday because the school opening will be on Monday. My niece parents are separated since she was two (2) years old. She only goes to her mother when it is school vacation.

Anyhow, when they came home last Monday, we were surprised because she had this cute little puppy. We have a female dog, but she is an adult already. At first, we were scared if the big dog gets mad at the puppy, because she's a jealous dog. But to our surprised, Jinky, our big dog, showed that she was not jealous because she wiggled her tail, and she likes to kiss (smell) the puppy. My father, who trained Jinky to be a responsible dog, carried the puppy, and he tried to put the puppy near to Jinky. Oh! Jinky likes her. She smelled and kissed her. Now, they are best of friends. They go together, roaming in the yard and played in the yard. The big dog never hurt the small puppy.

She likes to play in the grass. I guess, it is cooler for her to stay under this gumamela (Hibiscus) flower.

Did you notice her eyes? She has blue/green yellowish eyes. That is why I called her "Tisay", but the my niece called her Pinky, because she has a pink nose.

Back To School

That’s right, my youngest son and niece will go back to school on Monday. Good bye summer vacation, welcome back school. And these two kids are not yet ready to go to school. They are not even excited to see their old classmates. If only they could ask for more days to stay at home and play all day, then they would.

Anyhow, we don’t shop yet for their school stuffs because I am still waiting for the teachers to post or to give us the required school things like notebooks, books and more. So, on Monday, they will just bring one notebook, paper and pen only. We will wait for the teacher’s instruction before we shop.

I am actually happy that I don’t need to shop for school things right now because I have planned to shop at the grocery store this afternoon. I need to shop for food for their lunch box and snacks for the whole week. No junk food as the school didn't allow the pupils to bring junk food at the school. And then on Monday, after getting all the school requirements, we can go to the bookstore right after the school time. I wish there are only few requirements this time, since they are not small kids anymore. I know my budget is so tight, and I don’t like the idea on applying a loan or use a credit card when shopping for school requirements.

Save Money on Food by making Wise Supermarket Buys

Some savings opportunities take advantage of one-time savings, but others present repeated chances to save cash. Food, for example, is a never-ending expense, which adds-up over time, furnishing one of our most consistent spending categories, overall. Just as it is one of our richest budget entries, food spending also furnishes some of the most robust savings opportunities consumers encounter.

The key to saving money at the supermarket involves planning and learning how to shop within your means. Without these commitments, and a familiarity with your local shopping options, odds are you'll spend too much on the groceries you buy for your family.

To trim your food spending, it's important to remain flexible about the foods you prepare, so that you are poised to take advantage of savings as they become available. Buying cheaper cuts of meat and other money saving strategies, for example, are examples of some of the prudent food buying choices that will inevitably lead to savings on your annual food bills.

Meat savings add Up When you make Prudent Supermarket Selections

Unless you have not been to the market recently, you are likely aware of the cost of meat. Beef in particular, has become an expensive addition to any shopping trolley, prompting consumers to seek alternatives to the expensive cuts of meat they once enjoyed at reasonable rates.

Fortunately, most consumers are able to carve a portion of their food budget out, for buying meat. It isn't necessarily a matter of cutting meat out of your diet, but rather masking budget-friendly choices at the supermarket. Traditional cuts of meat like steaks and chops are among the most expensive cuts, because they are lean and favored for their fast cooking times. While these cuts are prime for grilling or frying, they also come with a hefty price tag, in most cases. When you need a little extra for that special meal, payday loans can be quite helpful. However, one of the best ways to continue enjoying the meat you are accustomed to, without wiping out your food budget, is to select less traditional cuts of meat, which are generally priced lower than their top-shelf counterparts. Roasts, for example, have more fat and connective tissue than steaks do, so they are sold for less of a premium. The down side to buying lesser cuts is that they do not respond well to the cooking methods some shoppers are most familiar with. As a result, buying a cheap cut of meat and then preparing it improperly does not yield the results most grocery shoppers are looking for.

The secret to tasty, yet affordable meat is to alter your cooking methods to suit the types of meat you buy. In general, cheaper cuts of pork and beef need extended cooking times to break down them down into tender, palatable morsels. Long cooking times, especially when paired with moist heat, yield economical meat dishes that are not short on flavor.

Try Store Brands for Savings

Brand loyalty often leads budget conscious shoppers astray, as they consistently buy the same products, regardless of how they are priced. To save money at the grocery store, try using budget brands instead of the most expensive name brands available. Store brands, or own brands, for example, furnish sizable savings on some canned products and other staples. On the other hand, some own brands are of lesser quality than their higher-priced counterparts, so the money savings is not a desirable trade-off for products that don't taste as good as well-known brands. You can't accurately judge quality and flavor until you try some of the lesser priced alternatives, so it is best to reserve judgment until you've sampled the store brands. In some cases, the quality is not reduced - only the price.

Good Night... Sweet Dreams

It is almost midnight here in this side of the world, but I am not yet sleepy. I am still on Facebook while writing here. Hmmm. Multitasking eh! I am also chatting with my online and offline friend. She is happy now because her blog was accepted from one of the networking sites here in the blogosphere. Since she is new on that site, she has lots of questions to me. I gave her tips on how to grab a task on that site. I know one of these days; she will get a task. Anyhow, I guess, I will go to bed now because my little young man will not go to bed as long as somebody is still awake. He sleeps in my bedroom but on a separate bed. So, I wish you good night and hoping we will have a good night sleep tonight.

Know What Grade Your Child Should Be In

The Department of Education has a given age bracket for learners. Kindergarteners need to be AT LEAST five (5) years of age before October 31 of the year of enrollment. And so if he or she is turning six (6) on November 1st of the year of enrollment, then he or she should be enrolled in Grade 1. The Department of Education made this chart for you so you would know where your child should be enrolled. Anyhow, last week, all public schools here in the Philippines were having a “Brigada Eskwela 2014”. Brigada Eskwela is happening two weeks before school opening or before classes start.

Shop with a Purpose and Save at the Grocery Store

Even the best of thrifty grocery store shoppers know it's true: the supermarket can feel overwhelming at the times when we are at our weakest, like when our stomachs are about to eat themselves with hunger or we get swept off our feet by a sale that is too good to be the real deal. But those who shop with a purpose at the market, whether it is to do a monthly stock up on bulk foods or just to pop in for a few items, are far more savvy spenders than those who tend to wander around the inside aisles of the shop waiting for something to catch their fancy. Here's why that grocery store phenomenon is true, and here's what you can do to avoid the trap of over spending.

1. Supermarkets are getting smarter than ever. As part of clever marketing techniques and eye catching tricks to encourage customers to make more purchases on a whim, grocery stores typically place low-cost high-desire items right next to the checkout counter. This way, you will be face to face with the tantalizing items you turned down so far in your shopping trip, and are attracted to their small size and corresponding price. Grocery stores sell most of their sweeties and non-essential items of that type to those who grab a chocolate bar or fizzy drink as they are checking out. By avoiding this trap and turning your back to the temptations, you'll not only save your small change, but save your arteries as well.

2. Another way that supermarkets are well versed in knowing the psychology of their shopper is demonstrated by the location of where certain items are placed. For instance, sale items that the shop must soon get rid of are often placed on the end cap of the aisle where they will be seen and noticed by patrons. Most 'junk food', processed food, and dried cereals, soups and pastas are all placed in the inner aisles of the store, while fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, and dairy are often located around the perimeter of the shop. Make it your rule that you will only shop around the outside aisles of the store, and if you still need something from the inner portion you'll pick it up right before you are ready to check out. That way, you hopefully won't find yourself drooling over some boxed food without having stocked up on vegetables and fruits first. And because the most dramatic sales often happen on processed, dried food, you won't be as tempted to purchase these things that you don't really need just for the sake of price.

3. Speaking of purchasing food that you don't need, that is a big no-no for any savvy shopper. Non-essentials should never be in your cart; that is, don't buy something because it is on sale if it is not something that you would have paid full price for. Chances are that it won't even be worth the half price that you are paying for it if it wasn't something that you were already missing in your daily diet. This goes especially for buy-one-get-one-free sales which may tempt you to stock up for cheap on things that you would never normally buy. Just because you can get a lot of it for a small amount of money doesn't necessarily mean that you would want any of it to begin with. Smart shoppers have their list of essentials for the week's or month's meals written out with them before they even go to the store, and stick to it without straying to see the most dramatic savings.

For Sale: 2007 Kia Avella Automatic

Oops! This is not my car. It’s our neighbor’s car. He asked a favor from me if I could post it on or that this car is for sale. This is actually a company’s car issued for him. He has been using it for over a year, and since he is no longer connected to the company, he returned this car. However, the company told him to sell it because no one will use it after him.

And so, I posted and sell it on the two well known sites here in the Philippines. If I could sell it, our neighbor will give me a commission. It is not actually a commission, because we didn't have a deal. I will just help him to sell this car, and he will give money as a way of saying thank you.

Anyhow, this is an automatic model 2007 Kia Avella. All power steering with air-conditioned, car stereo, leather seats, and never had been into a car accident. If you know somebody who is looking for a used car, you can call or text to this number: 09212353722. The price is Php. 90,000 but still negotiable.

I got a New Passport

Finally, I got my newly renewed passport yesterday. I went to the Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday afternoon just to pick up my new passport. I renewed it last month for I have planned to travel abroad again, but my old passport will be expiring in a few months, so I decided to renew it before applying for a visa abroad. When I applied for the new passport, I went to the office twice before I finally had my turn because I came around 10:00 in the morning, and the office will only cater 500 persons a day.Unfortunately, I was not included from the 500 person on that day, but we were given a schedule to come back and we don’t need to go to the very long line again.

Anyhow, if you have planned to get a passport here in Davao City, either a new passport or renewal, you need to come as early as 7:00 o’clock in the morning even if the office opens at 10:00 in the morning. As I have mentioned earlier, the Department Foreign Affairs or DFA will only accept up to 500 persons every day. And take note, there is only one DFA here in Mindanao, which means, the applicants are coming from all over Mindanao.

My old passport. There's a hole on the side, which means this passport cannot be used anymore.

My new released passport which is valid until 2019.

The old and new passports.

What is the idea of parental control?

Parental control is what we can call every process that is directed to provide a particular level of safeness of the kid. It can be implemented in every sphere of kids’ life, but mostly it is about protecting children from bad influence of the environment. In these days, those kinds of activities take place in the sphere of safety in the Internet. Regarding the Internet protection, there are few tools available on the market that can increase the level of security of kids who spend a lot of time being online. Software like antivirus, firewall and parental controls for Internet plus other steps taken by the parents can almost eliminate the bad influence coming from the net.

What are the methods?

First of all I would like to start with the descriptions of methods that are not straight connected with the IT solutions. Parents can do a lot by themselves in order to increase the security of their kids for instance by an honest discussion. It is really important to explain the kid what kinds of threats are lurking in the Internet and how bad consequences they can have. Next thing is to show the kid how to properly use the computer and the Web. Of course before that, parents have to learn themselves for example by creating accounts on some social media portals. After that they have to figure out how the particular service is working and identify the things that can be really dangerous. Later, when parents know how does it works, it is the right time to transfer this knowledge to the youngest. Another tip that every parent of young kid can follow is to place the computer device in an open area at home. It can be the living room where everybody will be able to see what’s going on at the screen. So to sum up methods different that based on software, we can say that to build an awareness of the kid what is good and what is bad is one of the most important goals regarding parental control.

Proper software can help

Now I want to focus on IT solutions. First method and the simplest is to install an antivirus program. This kind of software provides security in terms of protecting the computer against the viruses that may come from the net and other data medium. Some of the viruses are able to steel our personal data. The similar job firewall is doing. It blocks any attempt to enter our computer made by other users from the outside. Last kind of software is a parental control. It is able to block websites that contain undesired content like for instance pornography or violence. It can also control an hours in which the kid is able to use the computer. Usually the parents can also distinguish specified user’s settings for particular user’s windows accounts.

As we can see there are plenty of methods thanks to which parents can create a safe umbrella above their loved ones. One thing we have to remember is the fact that it is not difficult to provide safety at home, the biggest challenge is to raise a kid that will avoid dangerous situations outside the house.

The Voice Kids Philippines

Oh! I can’t wait to watch this The Voice Kid’s Edition on TV. The first video I saw on Youtube was a boy who sang “Grow Old with You” and he was so cute singing the song. He is far better than Justin Beiber. He is just a kid, but you will feel in love the way he sang the song. I don’t know yet his name, and I also don’t know who pressed the button and turned his or her chair. Let us wait until Saturday because the first airing of this on national TV will be on Saturday. Weee.. I couldn’t wait. This must be exciting, and full of entertainment. I would surely turn off the laptop first or no Facebook while watching because I don’t want to miss any moment of this show. I love to watch talented and gifted kids with their wonderful voice. So, starting this Saturday, and every weekend, my eyes will be on The Voice Kids Philippines.

Google celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Rubik’s Cube

Have you tried playing a Rubik’s cube? Did you ever solve the puzzle? I guess all kids have tried to play this toy. My kids love this toy and I couldn’t remember how many times I bought a Rubik’s cube.

When I opened my laptop today, Google celebrates Erno Rubik’s invention, the Rubik’s Cube. It is his 40th anniversary since it was invented. He was a professor of architecture at the University of Budapest. Later, this Rubik’s cube became one of the most popular toys in the world. If you're looking for some inspiration, check out Mats Valk from Netherlands solving a 3x3x3 Rubik's cube in 5.55 seconds:

My Favorite Outfit on Warm Days

Oh yeah, I love wearing sexy dresses since I was a teenager. When I was very young, I can wear sexy tops, sexy dresses even if it was a rainy season. Of all my lady cousins, it was me; it is only me, who wears dresses like on the photos below. But now, since I am not young anymore, although I still feel and act like a young woman (Lol), I cannot bear to wear sexy dresses or tops on rainy seasons. It is simply because, my body cannot endure a coldness anymore. I can only wear them on hot summer days or warm days. Anyhow, maybe some of you saw these photos already because I have posted them on my Facebook account. The first photo was also my profile pic on Facebook. I love looking at them, because I know, time will come, whether I like it or not, I cannot wear dresses, or sexy tops anymore. I have to wear clothes that are appropriate to my age.

Successful Bank Transaction

Today is another day. Yesterday, I had a good day. I wish I could have a good day today just like yesterday. Despite the rains yesterday, I was able to finish all my offline tasks. I did it when the electricity went out. I don’t want to stay here at home and waiting for the electricity to come back. It is so boring to wait because the brownout here has no permanent schedule. It died whenever they wanted, and it will come back after 2 to 5 hours.

Anyhow, I went back to the bank yesterday because my friend who is now in Europe wanted to send me money to my bank. We have the same bank here in Davao, but he couldn't transfer his fund to my account through online banking. So, I went to the bank just to inform them about this matter. Well, they tried to figure it out why my friend cannot transact a business through their online banking. And since my friend is in Europe now, and I am doing his business in behalf of him, the bank allowed me to confirm his account to them. So, I was happy when the bank staff told me to inform my friend that his account will be activated online after 24 hours. When we talked last night on Facebook, he was so happy. He will just wait for 24 hours, and then he can now use online banking.

Happy Mother's Day

When I opened my laptop this morning, it is the Google's logo caught my attention. They never forget to greet all the mother's in the world. I must be honest with you, I only learned this Mother's Day celebration when I was working already. I don't remember that I greeted somebody on this special day for mothers. Or maybe I was too busy with other things. lol.

Anyhow, I am not really close with my mom. To be honest with you, my mom never hugged me. Well, maybe when I was a kid, but as I grew older, going to school when I was in grade school, I couldn't remember if she hugs me. However, it is not a big deal for me because without her, I wouldn't be here in this world. I would not have wonderful kids of my own. So, I still owe a lot to my mom, even if she never showed her love to me (if there is). So, if my mom can read this, thank you for the life you gave to me. If I was your mistake, then I am sorry, and I am still grateful that you didn't abort me when I was still in your tummy. Happy Mother's Day to you mama. I wish one day, I can have a hug from you.

Up in the Coconut Tree

During summer time here in the Philippines, the fresh buko (young coconut) water is the best drinks for me. It is natural, and it is really good even without adding sugar. Aside from its refreshing taste, this buko water is also good for your health. If you have a problem with your kidney, it can clean your kidney organ, especially if you drink the buko water early in the morning, or when your stomach is still empty. I had a kidney problem when I was a teenager, and this buko water was my drinks in the morning. I never drink any hot beverages in the morning. Thanks to God, I don't have a problem with my kidneys now.

Anyhow, that was my cousin who climbed the tree, while the other cousin acted as the ladder.Lol.

Brownout or Blackout

For a couple of weeks now, we are all not happy with this rotating brownout or blackout. The Davao Light Power Company actually issued the schedule for brownout in every barangay. Unfortunately, this schedule has not been followed these past few days, and the worst part is, the brownout took longer and sometimes, there will be three brownouts in a day.

I hate it when it is gone during cooking time because I am using an electric stove, a rice cooker, and an electric water pot for coffee in the morning. I also don’t like it when it is gone at night, especially when we are on the bed already. And according to the news report, this electric shortage will experience until in the next few months because of El Nino. There will be no rain for months, and so we need to save our electricity because we are using hydroelectric power plant. In addition to that, since there’s no rain, the weather here is so freaking hot, as if you were inside the oven. As for today, we have 34 degrees. If only swimming pool, river, waterfalls are near, I would surely go there and jump into the blue cold water.
