Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Elected

1. Many of my friends have commented they cannot discuss politics with co-workers, family, friends and others without conflict rearing its ugly head. Do you feel you can talk with your family and friends about this particularly divisive election?
Ans: yeah, why not.

2. Do you know who you're voting for in next week's election? How did you decide?
Ans: We’ve just finished last Monday our Barangay election, the lowest form of government bodies and I’ve done my part.

3. What do you think is the most important issue in next Tuesday's election?
Ans: Oh here? For the Barangay election, next issue would be cleaning and removing all the banners, posters that they posted on the wall, or posts.

Ans: No, that is hard for me.

5. Do you think that you can chose who you want to love?
Ans: Yes, of course.

Ans: Yes, many times. I started singing on the stage at the age of 7 years old.

7. Would you ever live in a different country? If yes, where?
Ans: Yes, Sweden.

8. Any plans for Halloween?
Ans: No trick and treat for we have a bad weather here but as a Filipino tradition, I will cook something we can bring and eat at the cemetery.

9. The last costume that you wore, what was it and why did you choose it?
Ans: For the Halloween, I never tried but as a part of the play at the school before the Halloween, well, it was just a school uniform for I was the ghost student.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Nostalgic Thursday

It’s time for Nostalgic meme again, and thanks to Pretty Rose for hosting this meme. Anyway, here’s my entry for today. It’s kinda long, but I guess it’s worth reading.

Last week, it was all about our pictures when we were young. I know you were intrigued why I can’t accept that we look the same with my mother. Honestly, I really look like my mother. Aside from the looks, I got her big hips, skin, the way she walked, but I didn’t get her height for she is 5’8, and I am only 5’3. Well, I am glad that I only got her looks and not her being a person.

Here are our differences:

Mother : She has no neighbors, no friends meaning she is not friendly, and very strict.
Me: Very friendly, and my mother got mad at me because of this.

Mother: She is ungenerous, penny-pinching and selfish. (kuripot, madamot, at kayang kumain mag-isa sa harap mo, hindi marunong mag-aya ng kain)
Me: Generous, giving, and charitable.

Mother: She is a great nagger to my father. If you can’t hear my mother nagging to my father, that means she is sick.
Me: I never nag to my ex. I just cried in the corner if I am mad. We had a fight but nobody knows that we were fighting.

Mother: She is religious in her own beliefs but her religious group is something questionable to me for they claimed that God is a woman.
Me: I can’t tell that I am religious, but I go to church and attended a mass or novena on Sundays.

Mother: She is so clean in the house; everything is in order, very organized.
Me: Lazy, but I will not wait til the house looks like a forest. Unorganized and I have a habit of “I’ll do it later”(or manana habit) but the question is when is that? lol.

Mother: Perfectionist, demanding, moody (sala sa init, sala sa lamig)
Me : Whatever!

Another reason why I am not close to my mother, It is because I can still remember how she treated me when I was young. I am the eldest and she hated me so much. I could remember that she tightened me up with a rope to the leg of our table, so she could play her bingo game on that day. Luckily, our neighbor saw me at the window, and I was crying. The neighbors forcefully open the door and released me from being held with a rope. Guess how old I was when my mother did this. I was 5 to 6 years old then. My mother beats me with my father’s belt, sometimes a punch, and sometimes a double face slapping.

In everything I do is a mistake to her until now. Now that I am old, middle age I mean lol, despite of being a battled child, I am trying my best that she will like me by giving simple things she never had before, but she never appreciated it. NEVER!!. She will just accept it, and you can’t hear any words from her. Lastly, I went to school and finished my degree on my own. Oh! Wait, I should thank her, by the way, for I also got her brain, and I passed it to my kids as well.

1976 - Our House
This was the picture where Janjan told us that the little boy on the picture looks like him, the girl was his lola but actually it was me, and then the man was his lolo. Sorry if it is blurry. Next week, I'll post some of my pictures when I was younger.

Nostalgic Thursday

Thanks to Rose, the host of this meme.

This morning I went to internet cafĂ© just to scan my old pictures that my niece found from my mother’s box but sad to say, I forgot to pick it up this afternoon, so probably I will post it on Thursday. I didn’t know that she still has our pictures when we were young. My niece was so excited when she found the pictures. It was me, my youngest brother, my father and our dog on the picture. She was laughing out loud when she saw that her “lolo” (grandfather) looks like his Uncle Roy (my brother).

I was 14 years old on the picture and my brother was 7 years old. I was laughing too when I saw my brother’s picture because he looks like Janjan when he was small. Janjan on the other hand, was confused who was the young boy on the picture that looks like him ha ha When I asked him the people on the picture, he pointed one by one and said, this one is “lolo” (grandfather), this one is “lola” (grandmother), this one “I don’t know but he looks like me” and this one is a dog.

Jason and I were laughing out loud because he pointed me on the picture and said it was his grandmother?!? Waaaaaa Oh! My gulay! I can’t accept the fact that I look like my mother. No way highway! Holy cow carabao! My mother was laughing too when see heard from Janjan that it was her on the picture and not me. Waaaaa masaya sya na kamukha ko daw sya!?! Hindi maaaring magka mukha kami!!! Haha.

Well, honestly, I was happy to see our pictures when we were young, at least I know now that Janjan looks like my brother Roy and I look like my mother grrrrrrrr! Haha! I’ll post the picture next week, promise.

Music is our passion.

Nowadays, kids love to play their playstation games or playing to their cell phone. I wonder if you still remember some board games like backgammon, chess, checkers, etc. Do you know that my son wants to buy backgammon sets? Yes, my son loves board games. When he was young, he always asked me to buy any board games like Chess, Dominos, Scrabble, Game of the General, Snake and Ladder, just to name a few. On the other hand, my youngest is dissimilar to his big brother. He doesn't like any board games. He’s on electronic games like playstation, MP3, remote toy cars, and computer games. One thing they are in common is that, they both love music, and they usually sing together. That’s what they got from me, and I am proud of it.

I was with my uncle and cousin.

Hi everyone! Do you miss me? Lol. Sorry guys, I was absent yesterday for I have to go with my cousin and his father. His father visited us here in Davao. He’s actually living in Manila. When I asked my uncle when the last time he visited Davao was, he said, in 2004, oh! Well, I was still in Manila at that time. Anyway, I had a great day with my uncle. We went to the place where we live before, and I was surprised. The place was totally new to me. I don’t even remembered the name of the streets, and the way going out and in of the village because it has now lots of houses. I got back here in Davao late 2005, but I didn’t have a chance to visit our old place.

Since it was the last day of my uncle’s vacation here, my uncle didn’t waste his time. We went to all his cousins, brothers and one dying sister. We even visited the grave of his uncles and sister at the Davao Memorial Park. After the whole day walking, riding a taxi, eating, etc etc…we sent him to the airport at 7:00 in the evening. I know in his heart, he was happy for he had a great time even on a very short period of time with his grandchildren, his son and the family.

An Old-Fashioned Bedroom Furniture

Do you like hardwood log furniture? How about bedroom furniture that is made of log? Honestly, I don’t like bed in my room that is made of log, but I love to see it from other rooms. Why? It is because I don’t have house helper to help me move the bed, whenever I am cleaning my room, so I don’t like heavy furniture inside my room. Small log furniture will be fine as long as I can move it all by myself. How about you, do you like log furniture? Then you should visit the site and see what you can get from them.

Nostalgic Thursday - Childhood Days

I was absent last week lol. Thanks to Pretty Rose again for hosting this meme every Thursday.

Why don’t you run along, climb trees or chase dragonflies outside? I once told my eldest son when he was the same age with Janjan. A gale had knocked down our TV antenna and he could not watch his favorite afternoon program. He looked at me as though I had fallen from outer space. My children, especially my first son, do not do kid’s stuff like climb trees, fly kites, collect bugs, swim in ditches, run naked in the rain, or walk barefoot on the grass. It is because we live on the 4th floor of an apartment building on a crowded street in Quiapo, way back early 80’s.

My children ride escalators instead of climbing trees. They frolic in swimming pools instead of rain puddles. They collect posters, stickers and electronic toy cars instead of bugs and bottlecups. Most of the time, they sit in a corner of our living room watching television. They sit and watch life happen instead of going out to live it. I blame myself for much of their loss. Instead of taking them to the hills and the rivers (my grandparents farm), I take them to supermarkets and department stores. Instead of teaching them to listen to the song of birds and the laughter of a brook, I buy them walkman or MP3. Instead of going out with them to look for guavas, I buy them apples from the fruitstand. It is more convenient that way ---for me.

When I was a kid, I don’t have those things that I bought for them. I couldn’t even remember if I have a doll. We were poor and my parents were just contented of the lives that we had. They had no ambitions for their children. Eating 3 times a day was just enough for them. They were not interested to send us to the school either. Fortunately, my mother’s sister sent me to the school in exchange of helping her in their house and store. If I would recall all my childhood days, I could tell that I was less fortunate child for I don’t have a chance to enjoy my life as a child. Now that I have children, even if we are not rich, my children are lucky for they don’t experience the life that I had when I was a kid.

Business Photography and Printing

Photography is a lucrative part-time business because your job essentially is finished when the coverage or shoot is over. A transaction with one client can be over in one day and you can move on to another client and another shoot. Obviously, photographic equipment and knowledge of picture taking are all you need to start this kind of business. Full-time photographers usually have more equipment such as two or more cameras, extra stand-alone lights, digital cameras and laptops. For simple event's coverage, however, a good high-quality camera with a flash will set you back at least five figures I guess. You may also want to invest in a photo printing business, especially if you don’t have your own studio. Customers for photography vary, and may include anybody who hosts a birthday party, bingo social, baptism, and other events. The only trick impresses them with your work is when you make them look good.

Musical Christmas Cards at the Mall

Yesterday, we were at the mall with my youngest son just to buy his school project. We headed to the bookstore, and fortunately I got all the things that my son needs for his project. While I was walking around the bookstore, it caught to my eyes the gorgeous Christmas decors hanging on the ceiling and there were new lovely Christmas Cards displayed on every rack. Actually, I bought three musical Christmas Cards, and probably I will send it on the first day of December just to make sure that the recipient will receive it on or before Christmas Day. Obviously, the recipient is living outside Philippines. Anyhow, as soon as we got out from the bookstore, Janjan, my son asked if he can play on the animal toy ride first before we eat because I told him earlier that we will eat after getting all his stuff for school. To cut a long story short, I allowed him to play for 10 minutes ride only and then afterward, we ate at Dunkin Donut this time.

ABC Wednesday - L

L… for Lizard

This is the house lizard here in the Philippines. We called it house lizard for they like to stay in the house, but you can’t see them during the daytime. They only come out when the sun starts to set. I remember my grandmother told us that lizard brings good luck to the house. That they can also tell if there is a visitor coming to your house from a very far place by hearing sounds from them. This little creature is so yucky to me. I am scared to pass if they are on the ceiling of the house but most of the time; they stayed near to the light where they can catch bugs, ants, mosquitoes and all flying small creatures. They sometimes hide to your closet when they lay their eggs.
